Intermittent problem: On startup, the tack will read 1500 rpm, even though I can hear that it is running at the normal 700. Upon acceleration, the tach will read high, as well. When this happens, I cannot even get up on plane and the tach will be reading 4500-5000 rpm. The tach reads high even though the engine is running at "normal" rpm. I rarely run the engine above 400rpm. Sometimes i can correct it by shutting off the engine and restarting it. I checked the engine oil level and it is within range. The discharge water temperature does not seem overly hot such that it would indicate overheating.
