1978 Carver Mariner Sportfish

I bought this boat used. The lower Helm piece is broken and missing... The cable is there but No gear box. I do know that it is a Morse part(no longer made) and is a single cable style unit. My question is does anyone know what part # or model number unit this could be? Does the cable stay inside the unit or does it go in and through? HELP!!!
