1957 Chris craft Ignition relay problem

I have a 1957 Chris craft that has a 1992 marine power 4cyl made by gm. The ignition relay seems to keep being burned up . From the relay there is a line that goes to the fuel pump, alternator, and ignition coil. I can bypass the relay and all will work fine individually but every time I put in a new 12$ relay it fires up like normal then burns out the relay immediately. A bit perplexed as to what could be causing it.
